The onboarding video was A/B tested against having no video at all

by

Spend three weeks on creating a sleek 90-second video onboarding, professional audio, custom animation and all the bells and whistles. Pitted it against onboarding process with no videos but just three short text instructions and a screen shot. The text-only version showed a higher percentage of completion.

Here's my hypothesis, and it's nothing more than that: the video asked for ninety seconds of faith up front from someone who didn't know yet if the product is worth the investment of time, while the text version allowed visitors to scan it quickly within ten seconds.

Not that I am completely done with video content, but I am definitely reconsidering its place in the sales funnel. Has anybody experienced video being more effective than regular text for initial onboarding?
