Do you think that AI-generated comments make communities like Product Hunt a better place?

by
We've seen a lot of growth in AI comment generators lately – auto-creating comments and replies based on available info. Do you think apps like these are positive or detrimental to community-focused platforms like Product Hunt? Fwiw, we're aware that many folks are already choosing to use these kinds of services on Product Hunt. We're actively working on ways to address it, but I'm curious how our community feels about this type of engagement. Please vote (and explain your thoughts)!

ProductHunt is like a creative playground for innovative minds. ChatGTP is great for searching, summarizing, and generating code, but when it comes to more complex questions, it starts to make things up and becomes hard to decipher. In this day and age, we don't need a machine that simply piles on more information. It can drown out the truly valuable insights.

I just found out that ChatGPT has upgraded its search function from keyword searches to natural language questions and answers. This feature can enhance community engagement without disrupting discussions. I changed my mind. Maybe it's worth a try.

I am not a native English speaker. But it is better for me to write comments with mistakes but organically instead of using chatGPT or similar tools. We are people. Not everyone can express his opinion and not everyone is a `professional writer but it is cool when the community is live and communication is natural. imho

@vadim_voronovskiy1I agree. I hope we can take this simply as a tool to enhance our productivity, rather than a substitute for genuine human interaction.

Personal preference is people -driven engagement including comments. LinkedIn has started testing AI powered articles and encourages people to build off the article by commenting throughout sections of it. I don’t mind that approach as the article serves as a writing prompt for unique perspectives.

A lot of non-native English speakers who are otherwise reluctant to comment would be able to write comments now. However, it's just a tool and will result in both helpful and spam comments. If product hunt can build an algorithm/feature to filter or deprioritize spam comments, it would make PH a better place

Well, I don't like generated content in any sense, but I am someone who uses ChatGPT on a daily basis. Even this comment I'm writing now was edited by ChatGPT. It still reflects my thoughts, but for non-native English speakers, it may make my message clearer to others.
AI-generated comments lack authenticity and sincerity, which are essential for building a meaningful community. Genuine human interaction is what sets things apart. (Amusingly the above was made by an AI comment generator)

As long as the comment serves its purpose.

As you see, artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the relationship between humans and computers, hope not between people…

ChatGPT's comment generation experiments left me feeling that the generated answers lacked a certain human dimension. It appears that more emphasis is placed on getting a high volume of replies than on assuring the quality of each individual response.
