Thanks for hunting us @bramk! After a few months into a closed beta, we're thrilled to officially launch "Elegantt for Trello" today.
Trello is an incredible tool for managing projects from day to day. It makes it easy for your team to work together and gives them lots of flexibility. Everybody can focus on what's important and be more efficient. But when you need to check the status of all your projects, Trello just doesn't cut it. So we designed the "Elegantt for Trello" extension to allow you to see the big picture. It enhances your Trello boards with Gantt schedule charts that are automatically generated using the project info already in the boards.
@baskelos@sylvainw Not yet. We don't even have a webserver right now ;) All the data layer is stored in the Trello cards, saved through the Trello API.
We planned to duplicate the extension model on several tools : Github, Salesforce, Mailchimp.
Hunters, in which tool would you like to use Elegantt?
@sylvainw I’m experiencing some problems in regards to speed. Is it normal for changes I make to start and end dates to take that long and to more or less freeze up my browser tab? Is elegantt maybe interfering with another Trello addon?
Do you have any official policy (or security model) on data privacy? What data from my Trello boards would Elegantt store on its own servers (the entire board and all cards)? And if I delete the board in Trello is it still retained in Elegantt?
Thanks!
@howietl Your privacy is very important to us. Elegantt Chrome extension is client-side only. All of your data stays with Trello. We don't copy any of it to our servers without your permission. To ensure your privacy, all Elegantt data is stored in each card description and hidden dynamically. If Elegantt suits your needs, ask your team to install the extension. Otherwise, you can delete all Elegantt data with a single click.
@dennispassway We met them before the launch and they were really impressed. Here is a quote from the CEO himself:
"If our designers were going to add a Gantt chart feature to Trello, it would look exactly like Elegantt." - Michael Pryor, Co-founder & CEO at Trello
We are very honored to have their support for the project.
This looks amazing - any chance this could work on other browsers (thinking Safari) down the line? Also, in terms of additional platforms, I could see Buffer pairing really well given its focus on scheduling.
@brendonto I did not understand the Buffer integration at first but that makes perfect sense. I currently use Trello as a content calendar and a Buffer integration would be awesome.
This is an awesome find! Pretty much gives any larger team / long-form project a reason to try Trello.
One tiny thought: any plans for a Safari extension too? :P
@sphmrs we may consider releasing a safari/firefox version down the line based on the feedback we've been gathering since the launch. I'll add your vote to the feature requests card on our Public Roadmap (https://trello.com/b/qhgryS9a/el...) ;)
Thanks for your feedback!
@woutervanlent You've got the idea! Elegantt is shaped for Product, Marketing, and Tech Roadmap to see the big picture in a snap. You can also highlight delays through a simple roll-over on each cards. Try it with your team and tell us your feedback :)
This is brilliant. I added the extension, enabled Elegantt and am transforming the working board for my app into a real project schedule. [JUST NOTICED: I got 3 months of Trello Gold for doing so - Go Product Hunt!]
Lack of Project Management features definitely parks Trello for many people. That is why I'm really excited to share your product guys with my friends. Fingers crossed they like it. Cheers.
Looks interesting. But why does it need permission to enter comments as me, read, change and remove all my cards and boards? How do I know important confidential data is not readable by Elegantt people?
@hwaara to protect your privacy we chose to implement this tool without using any servers. For this to work, we need permission to store your Elegantt data in your cards descriptions. The Trello API only having three permission levels, we end up asking for more than we actually need. That being said, your Trello data will only ever transit between your browser and the Trello API, never through us. Also, you can remove all Elegantt data from your board at any time via the bin icon next to the Elegantt switch. I hope that answers your questions. Thanks for your feedback!
@iamrandyellis We have a long way to go before making a full consistent product. Tell us, does it work well on your Board? Creating a board for your roadmap is the best way to get quick benefits.
Looks sleek, will give it a try! Tiny remark : in your page describing the product (in English) are screenshots of the French version of Trello. It might confuse some people :)
