I built ArcPad because I wanted a better way to launch apps on macOS. With the direction of macOS 27’s new App Launcher, I felt there was room for an alternative that felt more natural, lightweight, and enjoyable to use. The idea was to rethink the traditional app grid and create something inspired by the circular layouts of Apple Watch’s watchOS. Instead of simply displaying a collection of icons, ArcPad offers a different way to browse and access apps while keeping the interface clean and familiar. My approach was to keep things simple: focus on the visual experience, make app launching straightforward, and build a native macOS experience without unnecessary complexity. ArcPad started as a small side project, but it became an opportunity to explore a different interaction pattern and see how a familiar task could feel fresh again. Ultimately, I built ArcPad for people who enjoy experimenting with their Mac setup and want an alternative way to access their apps.
