The GoPro Karma is an engineering masterpiece.
In what ways is the Karma an engineering masterpiece?
in that, I need a caption to go with the GIF
I would have gone with "It's made of parts!"
There have been rumors that GoPro is entering the Drone space for the past 1+ year. Makes a ton of sense and I love how they've created an attached handheld stabilizer. $799.99 seems reasonable, launching Oct 23rd.
biggest question for me is flight time...it says around 20 minutes on their site, but we all know battery times are usually exaggerated. Phantom 4 feels short at 28 minutes, so this may be an Achilles heel.
I never thought of the Phantom 4's battery life as short. 2 batteries and you've got near an hour of flight time.
A new toy for 👍
Knowing how it goes with Casey, they'll be sending him one for mail time in no time.
No autonomous flying feature?
that's the most surprising part about this... it doesn't seem to be able to follow you
The $799/$999/$1,099 pricing range is attractive, but I don't think it will take DJI long to release something that beats the Karma's price or features.
DJI will be releasing the their Mavic model on 9/27, with a similar form factor to the GoPro Karma drone. They already put out the new OSMO handheld gimbal that uses your phone to record stabilized video. This is going to be about price point for a lot of potential customers, and which ecosystem they are already tied into.
Already beating DJI on price... it was only a matter of time. We're looking at the future of GoPro here. Can any videographers comment on the quality vs. DJI? Looks pretty good to me...
Obviously I haven't taken a stab at the Karma yet. But the Phantom 4 offers a lot more. So GoPro isn't really beating them on price. The DJI Phantom can fly autonomously, it has sensors that prevent it from running into something, it has a follow feature that can lock onto a moving object, and I believe it has 3x the distance (DJI- 3km vs. GoPro- 1km). But don't get me wrong, I definitely want to try one out. The fact that you can take it off and attach it to a stabalizer is rad. So is how compact it is. But in my opinion, until the Karma puts in some autonomous features and longer distances, it's apples to oranges.
sensor wise they are pretty comparable. It'll be interesting to see if mounting lenses will be an option.
amazing (apple-like) product video!
I think we should get a demo for PH users you know for "testing"
Cool gadget but don't know about the price tag... Battery life will be a worry. You could always take the savings from and use them to fund your upgrade ;0)
The movie is super cool, the drone... well, it's ok
