Having read all the replies; I think you didn't get exact answer to your question. Having built communities for over a decade; let me share the steps you'll need to take to build the foundation of your community. The first step for a product community is to find out what's the purpose of your community. For most of the product communities - it's typically to offer support to existing customers. That's a good way to start. Let's go step by step- 1. Ensure that the link to community is visible from all important pages and menus. 2. Build the foundational content: What are the most important problems your users face? Create a few discussions and articles that offer to-the-point advise. 3. Create a few fake personas and interact with your content through those personas. Always remember - crowd attracts crowd. No one wants to be the first one to ask question or post a reply or even like content. 4. When someone registers on the community - you need to connect with them and help them out personally. Go out of your way to help them achieve their goals. 5. This process requires about 3-6 months - but you are setting your community for long term success and ROI that beats every other marketing channel. 6. Make sure that you are bonded with first 50 users of your community. They are the ones who will take your community to the next level. I always advise building open communities - where people can see at least 70% of your content before deciding on joining. That means - you SHOULD NOT build community on platforms like Slack, Discord and similar chat-based forums. They may gain initial registrations, but they are not sustainable. I've seen so many communities with hundreds or thousands of registered members; but almost zero activity. I'm open to offering free consultation because I like to give back.
