Klaviyo has basically become the default for anyone serious about ecommerce email marketing, and honestly after using it across a few Shopify stores, I get why. The moment you connect Shopify, it starts pulling purchase behavior, browsing history, and customer profiles in real time. Segmenting "customers who bought Product X but not Product Y in the last 90 days" takes about 30 seconds. That kind of behavioral targeting is what turns email from a broadcast tool into an actual revenue driver.
The predictive analytics (CLV, churn risk, next order date) are legit useful once you actually use them for segmentation. Combining "high-CLV customers at risk of churning" with a win-back flow drove noticeable results in my testing. Pre-built flows for welcome series, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, and post-purchase are solid starting points too, you can go live in a day if you're okay with defaults.
The elephant in the room is pricing. Once you pass 1,000-2,000 contacts, the monthly bill scales hard, and the shift to active-profile billing in early 2025 caught a lot of small brands off guard. Email templates also feel dated compared to Mailchimp or newer tools like Beehiiv. Learning curve is real, non-marketers get overwhelmed by the segmentation UI. For DTC brands doing $500K+ ARR though, it's still the clear winner. For smaller stores under $50K/year, honestly Omnisend or Mailchimp will do 80% of what you need at a fraction of the cost.
