Fenn is a private, AI-powered file search engine for macOS. It indexes your files and lets you search across video, audio, PDFs, and more — semantically, visually, and instantly.

Fenn
Sounds wonderful that it supports semantic searching! That really solves "I saw that somewhere..." moment. I'm curious how detailed and well semantic search works. Does it mean that Fenn can deal with queries like "find the part of a pdf file where Kevin(say, an author) talks about his home town"?
Fenn
@hyuntak_lee Absolutely! Yes, Fenn can handle that kind of query.
Fenn has different search intensity levels:
Low for fast, basic semantic search
Medium adds smarter filtering to reduce false positives
High goes deep — great for finding exactly what you want inside PDFs, videos, or anything else.
So you can pick the right level depending on how precise you need the results to be.
@thoddnn Wow that's amazing! Fenn is the very Spotlight I need. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Fenn
@hyuntak_lee Love that! Glad it sounds like a great fit for you 🙌

Congrats on launching, Thomas! This kind of sounds like Microsoft Recall.
Given it can look up visuals, can you please share more how these are processed for privacy?
Fenn
@thefullstack Thanks so much! And great question, privacy is a big focus for us.
Fenn indexes your files locally using a vector database, and all AI processing (visual, audio and text) is done on-device with open-source models thanks to the power of Apple’s M-series chips.
There’s no need to send anything to the cloud. Everything stays private and secure on your machine.
@thoddnn This is absolutely comforting! Do you mind sharing the model you are using as this helps with better prompting if needed?
Fenn
@thefullstack Thanks so much!
The specific models can change as the open-source AI space evolves quickly, but we list all the ones currently in use right in the “Models” menu inside Fenn, so you always know what’s running under the hood.
That said, you don’t need to worry about “real” prompting, just type a query that feels natural to you, and Fenn takes care of the rest.

What a day! 💛
We're incredibly grateful for all the support, feedback, and kind words you've shared today.
As a small thank you, the PRODUCTHUNT30 code will stay active until March 29th at 00:00 UTC, in case you haven't had a chance to use it yet.
Thanks again for being here with us — it truly means the world. 🙏

Congrats on launching! Sounds interesting! Does it support finding content within images? Also, it mentions that it indexes your files, so will it take up a lot of disk space?
Fenn
@desmond_ren1 Thanks a lot! Yes, Fenn can search content inside images too.
And no worries about disk space, we’ve worked hard to keep index size tiny, with around 95% compression, so it stays super lightweight.
Fantastic work with Fenn! I’m excited about the semantic search capabilities—this is going to save so much time finding files in all my folders.
Fenn
@daria_kovalova Thank you Daria! I'm really glad you’re excited about it. That’s exactly what Fenn’s built for 🙌

Fenn
@shenjun Totally! Semantic search for files was very needed on MacOS. If you’re curious to try it out, you can use the code PRODUCTHUNT30 for 30% off.
Thanks Thomas, I will check it out!
