Why I built a career and personal growth app in the age of AI
I'm Aroop, and I'm launching Welica on Product Hunt this Tuesday.
Before I ask for your support, I want to share some context on why this exists.
I spent 15+ years in financial services, analytics, and product. Late last year I left my role to build something I couldn't stop thinking about.
Here's what I kept hearing:
A college student told me that seniors who graduated just four years ago are shocked by how different things are now, how much more students have to do to feel competitive. A friend five years into her career asked me whether she should retrain entirely because she couldn't tell if her role would exist in three years. A parent told me they spent lakhs on their son's computer science degree and now weren't sure it was the right call.
These aren't edge cases. Everyone I talk to is navigating the same fog. Making decisions based on what worked before, with no way to know if those decisions still hold up.
So I asked a different question: what would actually help someone navigate an uncertain future?
My answer came down to three things. First, career clarity, giving people the best possible information about how roles are changing, what fits them, and where things are headed. Second, real skills, not credentials but the practical capabilities that hold up regardless of what the job market does. And third, emotional steadiness, because none of the above matters if someone is too overwhelmed or burnt out to act on it.
That's what Welica is. One app that connects all three.
What it does:
🔹 Career exploration — 300+ roles with fit signals, AI-impact context, and how fields are evolving
🔹 Life skills — structured courses in areas like effective communication, personal finance, problem solving, confident presence, focus and productivity, career planning in a changing world, creativity and design thinking, building better habits, and more
🔹 Wellbeing — guided check-ins and tools to help users notice how they're doing and take small useful steps
🔹 One daily home screen that pulls it all together and answers: what is the most useful thing you can do today?
Welica is calm, private, and built around small steps. It is for anyone trying to figure out what comes next, whether that's your first job or your next career move.
I'd love your honest feedback. What resonates? What's missing? What would make you actually use something like this?
