Vitals - A Mac activity monitor that thinks in apps, not processes
by•
Activity Monitor lists a thousand processes, a hundred of them called Google Chrome Helper. Vitals adds every helper to the app that launched it, so you see 60 apps instead of 1,000 processes, each with one figure for memory, CPU, energy, disk and network. It keeps 30 days of history, alerts you when an app misbehaves, finds forgotten dev servers, and shows temperatures, fans and battery. Every readout can sit in your menu bar, arranged your way. Pay once. No subscription, no account.

Does it identify what launched the server or only show its resource usage?
Vitals
@garyshenk Yes! Vitals shows where each server came from, not just what it's using.
Every dev server is grouped under its project folder, along with the app that started it (Terminal, VS Code, Cursor…) and the ports it's holding.
You can stop it or free up a port in one click.
Docker containers join their project too. Thanks for asking! 🙌
One of the first users here and I'm finding it so much more useful that Activity Monitor, I can see what's happening at a glance. And its surprisingly fast too!
Vitals
@maikunari Thanks for being an early one.
speed was a big focus, glad you noticed.
@attacomsian Plus I didn't even notice the running projects one as well - nice touch!
Scarlett.
Excited to hunt Vitals today.
Vitals is a native Mac monitor that shows which apps are actually using your resources, instead of making you dig through hundreds of individual processes.
What stands out:
• App-level monitoring: CPU, memory, energy, disk, and network in one view.
• 30-day history: Spot apps that start misbehaving over time.
• Dev server detection: Find forgotten Node/Python servers by project and port.
• Privacy-first: No account, no subscription, and everything stays on your Mac.

@byalexai Thanks a lot for hunting Vitals 🔥
honored to have you behind this launch.
Kai
great idea! hope it helps me manage my CPU better :D Is this free? would love to give it a go
Vitals
@jim_hartung Thank you! Just $5, pay once, and it's yours 😄
It is a simple yet effective tool for mac. Lucky to be part of the first 1000 to get it $5. Looking forward to the Storage cleanup feature and many more in the futute.

@joseph_kappala2 Thanks for being one of the first 1000 🙏
lots more coming, stay tuned.
Congrats on the launch. Recently, my MBP M1 has been noticeably slow, and I was curious to hunt for a tool that can give me a clear picture of what's eating up all that available memory. None matched my expectations except Vitals. A breath of fresh air to the UI that conveys all those important vitals that are needed, especially on a bit of a reasonably old machine.

@askar Thank you 🙌
older Macs are exactly where Vitals helps the most. glad it found the culprit.
Pay once, no account, menu bar readouts you can arrange yourself. That's my kind of Mac utility. Congrats on the launch! @attacomsian
Vitals
@zach_francis Thank you 🙌
built it the way I'd want a Mac utility to work.

grouping by app instead of process is the right call, Activity Monitor's list is basically unreadable once you have six Chrome helpers and three Electron apps running. one thing I'd want before switching: does Vitals itself show up as a meaningful line item in its own list, or does a menu bar monitor conveniently forget to count its own overhead the way a lot of these tools do?
Vitals
@galdayan Fair question, and yes. Vitals is in its own list like any other app, with its memory and CPU counted the same way. Nothing hidden.
If it ever gets heavy, you'll see it there first. And I'd want to hear about it.
