VidFold - Free video compressor: pick a size, keep it sharp

by•
Free video compressor that runs in your browser. Pick a size (WhatsApp 16 MB, email 18 MB, Discord 20 MB or any number) and get the sharpest video that fits, then compare it with the original. Trim (lossless when possible), rotate, flip, crop to 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9, convert to MP4, WebM or MOV, or extract MP3, M4A, WAV or Opus. Strips GPS data by default. Installs as an app and works offline. No upload, no account, no watermark.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Birkan, and I built VidFold. Every "compress video" tool I tried had the same two problems: you have to guess a quality setting and hope the file ends up small enough, and the result often looks worse than it needs to. VidFold flips it around. You say how big the file can be, and it works out the best quality that fits: 🎯 Type a size (WhatsApp 16 MB, email 18 MB, Discord 20 MB, or your own). It spends the whole budget on picture quality. 🔍 If 1080p would look blocky at that size, it suggests 720p, which usually looks better. 👀 Before you download, switch between the original and the export at the same frame and judge for yourself. ✂️ Trim without re-encoding when possible, so the cut is lossless. 📱 Crop to 9:16 for Reels / TikTok / Shorts. 📴 Install it as an app: it works offline, and on desktop you can right-click a video → Open with → VidFold. And because it all runs in your browser, there's no upload: a 77 MB clip was done in 3.5 seconds on my Mac. No account, no watermark, and location data is removed from the export by default. Current limitation: Chromium browsers only (Chrome, Edge, Opera). I'd love to know: which size do you usually need to hit, and for what?
