You don't need to be technical to build your own tools. Here's my 80/20 hack

Hey community! I thought to share this because it really changed my week, and I think more people should build their own tools, even if they are not perfect, regardless of their technical background.

For context: I built a tool that pulls my weekly calls from Granola, and turns them into a podcast-style audio every friday using @GranolaMCP, @Claude by Anthropic, and @Cursor.

I have 12-20 calls every week. And by Friday, I forgot half of what people told me on Monday.

So I built a fix for myself. Not a startup, not a product. Just a tool for me (and my co-founder @charlie_day!)

Every Friday I get a Slack message with a tl;dr of my week, plus a podcast-style audio recap of the most important things people said on my calls. I listen to it on the tube (underground for those outside of London).

How it works:

↳ Granola records my calls (their MCP does the heavy lifting)

↳ A Claude scheduled task exports the notes every night into a private GitHub repo

↳ Used Cursor to build myself a small personal CRM. Every day there's a "memory file" that gets updated.

↳ Every Friday it all gets turned into a script, and then to audio, sent on Slack with a tl;dr and the audio link.

Total cost: $0. I used the tools I already had, and just stitched them together.

Now, I took this problem to build a solution, you should do the same with yours.

What I hope others can take from this post is the mindset:

1. Start with a problem you have every week (doesn't need to be fancy)

2. Use the tools you already pay for (or the free tier).

3. Aim for 80% of the solution, fast.

(My "database" is literally just a file. Maybe one day it needs to be more. Today it doesn't.)

4. Ship it to yourself first. If you're the user, you can iterate faster.

I don't have a tech background. I ran an events agency for 10 years before getting into tech. Now I'm a co-founder of @Pretty Prompt(like Grammarly for prompts, 50k users, bootstrapped).
