Would you rather hire someone for 5 hours or commit to a full project?

One thing we’ve been thinking about while building ViaHourly:

Sometimes you don't need a freelancer for a whole project.

You just need someone who knows what they're doing for a few hours.

Maybe you need:

  • 3 hours of help fixing your website

  • 5 hours of SEO work

  • 2 hours with a Google Ads expert

  • 10 hours of development

  • A few hours of bookkeeping

But the traditional process often turns that into a proposal, scope, fixed price, contract, and a lot of back-and-forth.

So we're exploring a simpler model: book professional expertise by the hour.

I'm curious:

When you hire freelancers or agencies, would hourly booking make things easier for you, or do you prefer fixed-price projects? And why?
