Why is quitting energy drinks so much harder than we think? ⚡️
I’ve “quit” energy drinks at least ten times. Cold turkey. “Just water instead.” “Only one a week.” Every single plan fell apart faster than a sugar-free Monster or Red Bull crash.
The crazy part? I knew exactly what they were doing to me:
My sleep was garbage — I’d lie awake buzzing while dreading the next day
My focus tanked — sharp for one hour, useless for the next five
My wallet bled for cans with lightning bolts on them instead of, you know, actual food.
And yet every time, I’d crack one open with the same excuse: “Just to get through today.”
If you’ve ever been stuck in that cycle, you know it’s not about a lack of willpower. It’s about how sneaky the habit is. The ritual of grabbing a can. The comfort of the fizz. The fake sense of energy that convinces you “this time will be different.”
That frustration is why I started building The Last Can — a webapp for people who’ve “quit forever” ten times already. It’s not another motivational wellness lecture.
It’s a mix of:
Tracking tools that show you exactly how much your habit is costing you
Sarcastic nudges when you try to lie to yourself (congrats, you’re funding Big Energy’s yacht again)
Small wins that make quitting actually feel rewarding, rather than miserable.
It’s still early, but even building it has helped me cut down way more than I ever managed on my own.
So I’m curious:
What’s been the HARDEST part of quitting for you?
Cravings? Social habits? The ritual of cracking one open?
And what’s the dumbest excuse you’ve told yourself? (Mine: "It’s sugar-free, so it’s basically healthy" 🙃)
Would love to hear your stories. If nothing else, maybe we’ll all feel less alone in the cycle of “this is definitely my last can… until tomorrow.”
