Privacy in File Conversion: Is Client-Side Processing the Future for Online Tools?
Hey everyone! As the maker of CloudyConvert (a free Image & PDF converter suite), I wanted to start a discussion about a topic we think is crucial: data privacy when using online file tools.
Most conversion websites require you to upload your files to their servers (JPEG, PDF, etc.). We decided to build our entire suite using client-side processing (powered by WebAssembly/JS), meaning your files are never uploaded—they are converted instantly right inside your browser.
This is a game-changer for sensitive files, like:
Business PDFs (Contracts, Invoices)
High-Quality Images (Pre-release product photos)
My question to the community is:
Does knowing a tool uses client-side processing fundamentally change whether you trust or use it?
What's the riskiest file type you've ever had to upload to an online tool?
We'd love to hear your thoughts on privacy vs. convenience in the online utility space! We think you can have both.
Feel free to check out our suite if you're curious to see it in action!
