How do you know when to stop?
In architecture, especially when working with a minimalist mindset, there’s a constant tension between abstraction—removing what’s unnecessary to reach the essence—and pure simplicity, which can sometimes cross into being merely “bare.”
This same dilemma appears in product design, especially now that technology lets us build and iterate faster than ever. Every new tool and API makes it tempting to add just one more feature, one more layer of “smartness.” The line between essential and excessive gets blurred.
With my app, I face this challenge: Does adding something new really improve the user’s experience, or does it distract from the clarity I set out to achieve?
It’s a question that feels urgent, as new tech makes it so easy to go in either direction. Where do you draw the line between powerful abstraction and oversimplification—and how do you resist the pull of adding more, just because you can?
