Geofencing 2.0
Hey Product Hunt đź‘‹
The basic geofence—a virtual circle on a map that sends an alert when someone enters or leaves—has been a staple for years. But anyone who's used it knows its flaws: alerts for every single crossing, no matter how routine, leading to alert fatigue.
The next generation, Geofencing 2.0, is about smart zones with built-in intelligence. It's not just where you are, but when you should be there and what you're doing.
What makes a zone "smart"?
Time-Aware Boundaries: A geofence around school that only sends an alert if your child leaves during school hours, not at the 3 PM dismissal bell. It understands the context of time.
Multi-Stop Routines: Defining a "Tuesday Afternoon" zone that includes school -> soccer field -> home. You get one alert when the complete, expected routine is finished, not three separate pings.
Duration-Based Alerts: An alert that only triggers if someone has been stationary in an unexpected zone for more than 10 minutes, or if they leave a safe zone (like home) after a certain evening hour.
This shift from simple geography to spatiotemporal logic is key for useful tools. Implementing these smarter, contextual zones is a major focus for us at Number Tracker.
