GeCoM – Music Collection Management
Your physical music collection deserves more than a database. It deserves a community.
The Problem
Discogs is a powerhouse for data, but it feels like a cold marketplace. If you collect vinyl, CDs, or cassettes, you know it’s not just about a list on a screen. It’s about the tactile feel of the sleeve, the way you organize your shelves at home, and the thrill of finding someone to swap with. Most collectors aren't looking for another store; they’re looking for a way to live their collection and connect with others through pure bartering, without a price tag attached.
The Philosophy
GeCoM is built on the idea that physical music is a social object. It’s meant to be shared, shown off, and swapped. We put bartering at the heart of the experience: no commissions, no fees, and no middleman. Just two people reaching an accord and swapping records they love. One for one, music for music.
How it compares to the "Standard"
Focus
Discogs: Buying and selling.
GeCoM: Your personal space, bartering, and community.
Physical Organization
Discogs: None.
GeCoM: Named shelves and positions. It actually helps you find where you put your records.
Pure Bartering (No Money)
Discogs: Not supported.
GeCoM: A full swap workflow—from the first proposal to the final handshake.
Reputation
Discogs: Just for sellers.
GeCoM: Two-way ratings for every swap. Plus, you can bring your Discogs rating with you.
Finding People
Discogs: Not a priority.
GeCoM: A proximity filter that scales from a 10km radius for local meetups to "Overseas" for global exchanges.
Browsing
Discogs: Lists and grids.
GeCoM: An interactive Coverflow that feels like flipping through crates at a record store.
The Swap Workflow
We’ve built a dedicated system for bartering. Mark what you’re willing to swap and what you’re hunting for. When the system finds a match, you can propose an exchange and chat to arrange a local meeting or a shipment. It’s about the music, not the money.
Zero Friction
You can try GeCoM instantly. Our guest mode lets you play with a demo collection of 12 albums so you can see how it feels before you even think about signing up. If you like it, you can import your entire Discogs library in one click.
Supported Formats: Vinyl, CD, Cassette, and Reel-to-Reel.
Platform: Available as a PWA—just install it from your browser on any device.
