What made me build Tool Inventory

I originally started this for myself after realizing I didn't have a good record of the tools and equipment I owned, where everything was stored, or the serial numbers and values I'd need if something was ever stolen or damaged.

It started as a simple inventory and grew from there as I kept finding things I wanted it to do better.

I'm curious how other people currently keep track of their tools — spreadsheet, photos, another app, or just memory?
