I originally started building Tool Inventory for myself after buying a bunch of higher-value woodworking tools. I realized that if I ever had a fire or theft, I'd have a hard time even remembering everything I owned, let alone serial numbers, values and where everything was stored. It started as a pretty simple inventory idea and kept growing as I found more things I wanted it to handle — QR bins, equipment maintenance, consumables, job tracking and tool checkout. Eventually I figured I might as well put it out publicly and see if it's useful to anyone else. It's still a project I'm actively improving, so feedback is definitely welcome.

What made me build Tool Inventory

I originally started this for myself after realizing I didn't have a good record of the tools and equipment I owned, where everything was stored, or the serial numbers and values I'd need if something was ever stolen or damaged.

It started as a simple inventory and grew from there as I kept finding things I wanted it to do better.

I'm curious how other people currently keep track of their tools spreadsheet, photos, another app, or just memory?
