I’m Matt, the creator of ToolInventory. I started building it because I wanted a simple way to keep track of tools, equipment, parts, and where everything actually is. What started as a basic inventory idea has grown into a tool for garages, workshops, contractors, farms, and small fleets. I’m not a traditional software developer — I come from a hands-on design and fabrication background, so I’m building ToolInventory around problems I’ve actually run into. I’m constantly testing, improving, and adding features based on real-world use and feedback.

What made me build Tool Inventory

What made me build Tool Inventory

I originally started this for myself after realizing I didn't have a good record of the tools and equipment I owned, where everything was stored, or the serial numbers and values I'd need if something was ever stolen or damaged.

It started as a simple inventory and grew from there as I kept finding things I wanted it to do better.

I'm curious how other people currently keep track of their tools spreadsheet, photos, another app, or just memory?

Tool Inventory was built to be useful without feeling like enterprise software. Track tools and equipment by location, organize storage with QR-coded bins, record serial numbers and values, and keep everything searchable. Optional add-ons expand it into maintenance, consumables, job tracking, tool checkout and storage planning when you need them.
