Tessera 1.0.0 is out

Tessera is a desktop library for game assets. It keeps every pack you collect whole, puts its license and where it came from on record, and copies assets into Unity, Godot or Unreal with the credits written for you.

The reason it exists is a question most of us cannot answer: what am I actually allowed to ship? You collect packs for years from bundles, jams, Discord links and stores, and the terms come loose from the files almost immediately. Tessera reads the license out of the pack where it can, keeps a page snapshot and an copy as proof of what the terms were on the day you got it, and puts anything unclear in Review rather than guessing.

A few things I decided for it:

Your library is ordinary folders. No database you cannot open, no format only Tessera reads. If it vanished tomorrow you would still have everything.

Nothing is written over without asking. When a copy into your game hits a filename that is already there, both sides are hashed with SHA-256 first. Same bytes, it skips silently. Different file, it stops and asks.

It runs on your computer. No account, nothing uploaded. Agents can drive it over MCP, on this machine only, with what they may touch in your hands.

Before calling it 1.0.0 I backed a library up to Google Drive, restored it on a machine that had never seen it, and checked every file matched by SHA-256. It did.

Free, GPL-3.0, macOS, Windows and Linux. Happy to answer anything, including what it does not do yet.
