Hi ProductHunt! I'm sure a lot of people have seen the recent changes on X/Twitter to remove text from links, (arguably) making them look better, but hurting visibility and clickthrough. (If you haven't, take a quick break and read: ) As someone who spends a worrying amount of time on X and doesn't like to see his readability diminished, I swung into action and built out "Show the Links". It's a drop-in improvement to let content creators on X publish links that still include their text content. How does it work? It's kinda like a URL shortener, where you prefix the link you're posting with our URL. We dynamically generate a Twitter card image that includes both your base image, and an overlay of text and domain and so on. Super simple! A quick example: It's totally free to use on a showthe.link subdomain, but if you want a custom theme for your site and to use your own domain entirely there's a commercial white label option too. There's a half-dozen themes to pick from already, and I'm adding in more soon. But I wanted to get v1 out ASAP because half my feed at the moment seems to be people complaining about this 😅 Looking forward to see what you all think! 🚀
clever! People should stop using X, but barring that, how accessible is this solution?
Super easy -- just prefix your usual link with our domain (or your domain, if you want a white label solution!), and I take care of the rest on my side.
sorry, I mean "accessible" for sight-impaired users. :)
Predictable outcome of X's change. Clever implementation by using a short URL.
Yeah, it was only a matter of time -- I decided to be first :D
Great tool! It makes it easier for content creators to create engaging previews for their links. Thanks for sharing it!
Thanks so much! I hope everyone finds it useful :)
I had wished for a return to the previous display, but now that we have this tool, it's no longer relevant.
honestly it'd be better if X fixed it on their end, but I suspect that won't happen. I like to refer to showthe.link as an ingenious solution to a problem that should rightfully never exist (but does!) 😅
Congratulations on the launch! I am running a media in Japan. So it's useful!!!
Congratulations on the launch!
Thanks! :D
An example of how this helps: compare my two tweets to this launch page!
Congratulations on this innovative tool for content creators! Can users customise the appearance and information presented in the image previews?
This gonna help us content creators a lot! A great idea!
Clever! and will definitely be useful
