Building a simple USB slideshow app for Roku. would you use it for digital signage?
Hi everyone,
I'm an independent developer working on apps for TV platforms, and I wanted to share something I've built for Roku: USB Slideshow & Signage.
The idea is to make it easier to use an existing TV as a photo slideshow or simple digital signage display without setting up a separate computer, media server, or cloud-based signage service.
For example, a small café could display menu images and promotions, a shop could loop product photos and videos, or someone at home could show family memories on their TV.
The app plays photos and videos directly from a USB drive connected to a compatible Roku device. It supports continuous playback, adjustable slide timing, shuffle, optional background music, and a gallery for browsing media.
It's free to try with limits on the number of media files. Larger collections require a subscription.

I'm interested in hearing from other makers and small-business owners.
If you were setting up a simple digital signage display using an existing TV, would USB-based playback be enough, or would features like remote content updates and scheduling be essential?
I'd appreciate feedback on which capabilities matter most in real-world setups.
