Agencies, freelancers & developers: how do you actually handle client documentation?
Every client project I've worked on ends the same way: documentation. Setup guides, handoffs, "how do I edit my own site" walkthroughs. Screenshots into a doc, tidy it up, export a PDF that's outdated by the next change. It's real work and usually the unpaid, unloved kind.
What I can never quite tell: does everyone just accept this as part of the job, or have some of you found genuinely good ways to make it less painful?
So I'm curious how you all handle it 👇
What do you use today: Notion, Confluence, Google Docs, Loom (or video walkthroughs in general), PDFs, something custom?
What's the worst part: writing it, keeping it up to date, or making it look professional for the client?
Do clients actually read it, or does it vanish into an inbox?
Full disclosure: my team is building something in this space: Aveela, client documentation for agencies & freelancers, launching in about a month. The idea: Aveela's AI turns screenshots of a workflow into a structured, editable draft, so you're not starting from a blank page. I'm helping on the design & marketing side. It's an early sneak peek for now, mostly the core idea and a notify-me, but if it sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to check it out: aveela.com
Would love to hear how you solve this today. Setups, workarounds, horror stories, all welcome 😅
