Rakkan - Real-time translation chat for cross-language couples

by
Rakkan is a chat app for couples who don't share a language. It translates every message and your live video-call captions between your language and theirs, and it shows you a read-back of what you actually said before it sends, so you're never guessing. It keeps your relationship in every line, your tone, your pet names, your history, so it sounds like you two and not a dictionary. Speaks 7 languages, works in the browser or on your phone, free to start.

Hi Product Hunt, My name is Martin and I have built Rakkan. The reason was that me and my girlfriend used WhatsApp to communicate, she’s Thai and I’m Slovak, but she writes me entirely in Thai which I can’t read. So each time I had to copy, translate, read, write, translate, copy, paste, not to mention that I can’t read our chat history since it’s all in Thai. Not only that, but Google Translate only translates literals, never the meaning or context. I used to use AI models to do this, but again, it’s tedious, I need to write the whole story of what we are before even attempting to translate, and even then, it only translates my messages going forward. So I thought, why not combine all of this into one place? And thus Rakkan was born. At first it was just English to Thai (and vice-versa) but then I thought, surely I’m not the only one who might use this. So it now has 7 languages. And the best part? It’s not only English to Thai, but any language to any language. On top of the chat, I built the video call system, which yes - we have plenty of video call apps, but the ones that even do live captions don't know your relationship or your history, the way you two actually talk. Of course it doesn’t end there, but this is what Rakkan is all about, removing the language barriers for Long Distance Relationships. If you're in a long distance or cross-language relationship, I'd really like to hear what trips you up.
