Quill - A locked diary with no account and no subscription

by•
Quill is a private diary for iPhone. PIN and Face ID lock, no account, no server of ours. Import from Day One or Apple Journal, export to PDF or Markdown, back up to your own iCloud. Pro is one purchase, never a subscription.

Hi Product Hunt! I build small iPhone apps on my own, with an AI coding agent doing a lot of the typing. Quill is a diary built around one idea: there is no server of ours, so there is no company that could read what you write — including me. No account, no sign-up. Entries live on your iPhone and, if you want, in your own private iCloud. What's free, and stays free: • PIN + Face ID lock, with a recovery code if you forget the PIN • Rich text: bold, italic, colour, links, lists, checklists • Full-text search on the device, a month calendar, and "On this day" from past years • Import from Day One, Apple Journal, Markdown, plain text or CSV — import the same file twice and nothing is duplicated • Export to PDF, a book with a cover and contents, or Markdown with your photos Quill Pro is a one-time purchase ($19.99 in the US), not a subscription. It adds drawing by hand, voice notes, scanning a page of a paper notebook, sharing an entry as a card, 20 photos per entry, and more. 13 languages, switchable inside the app. One question for you: if you keep a diary, what made you leave the last app you used?

A few questions people usually ask, answered up front:

• Android or web? No — iPhone only, for now.

• Where is my data? On your iPhone. Backup goes through your own private iCloud database, not ours. You can turn iCloud off and Quill still works.

• What if I forget my PIN? You get a recovery code when you set the PIN. You can read it again in Settings.

• Can I leave? Yes. Export to PDF or Markdown works with or without Pro, and after you stop using Quill.

• Why no subscription? A diary is something you keep for years. Paying monthly to read your own words felt wrong.
