Proximity Lock System 2.0 - Never worry about leaving your computer unlocked again.

Proximity Lock System is a CLI tool that automatically locks your system when your paired Bluetooth device (like your phone) goes out of range. It continuously monitors nearby devices, ensuring your computer stays secure when you step away. - Akarshjha03/ProximityLockSystem

No statuses on Facebook written by your friends in your name. This should have been there a few years ago, I would have been prevented from so many embarrassments :D

Akarsh Jha

@busmark_w_nika Haha, exactly! That’s one of the problems Proximity Lock System was built to prevent — no more surprise Facebook statuses when you step away. Glad it resonates! 😄

Tetiana

@busmark_w_nika …and no more Britney Spears on the desktop while your colleague is away :D

Akarsh Jha

@busmark_w_nika  @tetiana_hryshmanovska 😂 Exactly! No more surprise Britney wallpapers or office prank takeovers. Proximity Lock keeps all those fun ‘colleague moments’ in check!

Nika

@tetiana_hryshmanovska To be honest, I would be quite okay with Baby one more time :D

Tetiana

@busmark_w_nika Me too, I'm a Britney fan :) We thought about using this pic for our colleague - a man who isn’t such a big fan of hers :D

@busmark_w_nika, it had been there for years https://unlox.it/
Nika

@emanresu I missed it :D

Tao Larry

@akarshjha03 Love this — finally my laptop locks itself when I walk away. Saves me the paranoia.

Akarsh Jha

@tao_larryy Glad to hear that! 😊 That peace of mind is exactly what I wanted Proximity to deliver.

Sounds nice. Does it work for Windows or Linux computers? Also are you planning on creating an executable interface like an app so the app would be open for more people to use it?
Akarsh Jha

@nair0 Thank you! 🙌
Right now it works on Windows machines. Linux support is on the roadmap and coming soon.
I’m also planning to ship a proper GUI app (executable) so anyone can use Proximity without touching the command line.

Ciprian Balanica
@akarshjha03 That's great! Looking forward to it

@nair0  @akarshjha03 In the README of github, I see there has been Platform notes for Linux desktops. Linux support should be ready? By the way, command line is more flexible for Linux user since I can easily define the unlock command and setup autostartup.

Akarsh Jha

@nair0  @jachinshen Great catch! The Linux notes in the README are part of the ongoing work, the core functionality is there, but I’m polishing stability and packaging before calling it fully supported. And absolutely, the CLI flexibility is one of the perks on Linux. Thanks for pointing it out!

Aditya Anand

Aakarsh, this is really simple yet so innovative! I will definitely have a look at the code and see how you implemented it. This sounds extremely simple.

Will it remain a CLI tool in the near future, or will it be made into an application? I would love to understand so that I don't have to keep the CLI open for this tool to work and make it a more regular part of my workday.

Akarsh Jha

@aditya12anand Thank you so much, really appreciate it! 🙌

The goal was to keep things simple and transparent, so I’m glad that comes through.

Right now it runs as a CLI, but I’m actively working on a proper desktop app so you won’t need to keep a terminal window open. It will run in the background like a regular utility, making it easier to use day-to-day.

Love true PH makers! The idea is very unique. How did you come up with? Haha
Akarsh Jha

@pasha_tseluyko Thank you! Really appreciate that 🙌
The idea came from a real-life annoyance, I kept forgetting to lock my laptop when stepping away, and it only takes one moment for someone to peek or pull a prank. So I built a small script for myself, and it gradually evolved into Proximity.

Funny how the simplest pain points lead to the most useful tools!

Pavel Tseluyko

@akarshjha03 well said about "simplest pain points lead to the most useful tools" 👍🏻

Wish more founders to understand that.

Saul Fleischman

Very nice update on a very original product!

Akarsh Jha

@osakasaul Really appreciate it! Your feedback means a lot — I’m working on even more upgrades next.

Chilarai M

Congrats on the launch!

Akarsh Jha

@chilarai Thanks a lot! Appreciate the support

💡 Bright idea

Super cool idea. Have you considered adding a small tray UI for it? Right now it feels aimed mostly at developers. With a simple UI you could reach anyone on macOS with basic IT skills. Could expand your audience fast

Akarsh Jha

@shahar_shalev Really appreciate this! Yes, a tray UI is planned. The current version is developer-leaning, but I’m working on a lightweight macOS UI to make it usable for anyone.

Aslam Raza

@akarshjha03 Low-friction security that actually gets used. I’m more likely to keep my machine locked now.

Akarsh Jha

@aslam_raza Thank you! That’s exactly the goal - security that doesn’t get in your way but still protects your machine.

Glad it’s helping you stay consistently locked without extra effort!
