Invoices stay in email.

Documents arrive through chat.

Articles live in the browser.

Traditional file systems expect every file to live in exactly one place.

But real life rarely works that way.

A travel receipt can belong to travel, taxes, work expenses, or all of them at once.

Every time we decide on a folder, we're reducing information to a single dimension.

Most file systems assume filenames are how people find information.

But that's rarely true.

For years, I believed bookmarking meant saving something.

It doesn't.

Bookmarks only save where something used to be.

The knowledge itself stays somewhere else.

My phone has thousands of screenshots.

Receipts.

Flight confirmations.

Interesting articles.

I once found three copies of exactly the same PDF.

One came from email.

Another from a chat.

The third from my Downloads folder.

A few days ago I needed a PDF I'd downloaded months earlier.

I knew I had it.
I knew it was still on my device.

I just had no idea where I'd put it.
