I drive 80km a day for work. Every time I needed to fill up, I'd open Google Maps, search for nearby stations, compare prices one by one... a total pain. I thought: why isn't there something simple that shows me nearby stations sorted by price?
Yes, I know — similar platforms already exist. But honestly, they kind of suck. Outdated interfaces, stale data, terrible user experience. I thought I could do better.
So, with the help of AI, I built Pieno — my first app.
How it works:
It uses your location to show all stations within the radius you choose (5, 10, 20km), sorted from cheapest to most expensive. You can filter by fuel type (petrol, diesel, LPG, methane). Prices are updated every morning from the official MIMIT dataset (Italian Ministry of Enterprises), covering ~23,000 stations across Italy. There's also a trip mode that finds the most affordable stations along your route.
The community plays a key role too. MIMIT data is refreshed daily, but prices change throughout the day and aren't always 100% accurate. That's why I built a community price update system: anyone can confirm or correct a price directly from a station's page. The more people use it, the more accurate and real-time the data becomes. Think Waze, but for fuel prices.
The app works but is still actively being developed. I'm currently working on improving GPS coordinate accuracy, push notifications when prices drop below a threshold, and publishing on the Google Play Store.
I'd love to know what you think. Would you use it? What would you add? What don't you like? All feedback welcome — even the brutal kind.

(Disclaimer: I'm not a professional developer. I built this in my spare time with AI assistance. The code isn't perfect, but it works!)
