Pausr - Your body wasn't built to sit at a screen all day

by
Pausr is a menu bar Mac app that runs three research-timed breaks: 20s looking away every 20 min, 90s on your feet, one real 15-minute break. Small nudges in between remind you to blink and sit up straight, without interrupting anything. It knows when to stay quiet: meetings, calls, screen sharing and fullscreen games hold every break until you're free, each with a 30-second heads-up. No account, no server: your stats stay on your Mac. Free for 7 days.

Hey Product Hunt, I have worked remotely for five years, launching companies from the same desk. Some worked, some did not. That is the game. What I did not see coming was the bill. I'd quietly put my own health aside without noticing: whole days without standing up for anything but a refill, eyes burning by 6pm, focus gone by mid-afternoon, which I made up for by working later. I thought I was holding a pace. I was wearing myself out. So I went looking for a tool. Not one asking me to meditate for twenty minutes between two calls, and not one that left the decision to me, because when I'm deep in something I will always choose to keep going. I needed something that would proactively hand me a break schedule and just run it, so I never had to think about it or decide anything. Not to work less: to actually recover, so I could stay focused and get more done, day after day, instead of running out of steam by week three. I tried the break apps. I uninstalled every single one within two days, always for the same reason: they interrupted me at the worst possible moment. Mid-deploy. Mid-call. Mid-sentence. So the first thing I built into Pausr was not a break. It was the silence. Pausr holds the break when you are in a meeting, on a call, sharing your screen, or in a fullscreen game. Every break gets a 30-second heads-up, so you can start it early or push it back. Then the breaks themselves, timed by research rather than vibes: - 20 seconds looking away, every 20 minutes - 90 seconds on your feet, every 45 minutes - one real 15-minute break, away from the screen And the part I care most about: nothing leaves your Mac. No account, no server, no sync, no tracking. Your stats stay in a folder on your own machine. I can't see them, and I built it that way on purpose. Where it's honest about its limits: - macOS 12+ only for now. There is a Windows waitlist on the site. - Built by one person, so writing to support means writing to the developer. - It is a work tool, not a wellness app. It will not ask you to breathe with a whale. One thing for this launch: the code PRODUCTHUNT50 gets you 50% off for life, valid for 3 months. Please only upvote if you genuinely like it, I'd rather have your criticism than your vote. The question I'd really like answered: what made you uninstall the last break app you tried? Alex
