Hi Hunters! I'm Jean-Rémi, co-founder of Ninchanese. I'm super happy Ninchanese is featured on Product Hunt! I'll be here to answer any of your questions. You know the Chinese language can seem a bit difficult... So as Chinese learners, we had to do something. We've been working on Ninchanese to change the way Chinese is learned. We came up with a gamified app that makes learning Chinese fun and efficient (I think). You'll learn all you need to become fluent in Chinese. We also developed a Chinese multiplayer game, where you can play with your friends over your knowledge of Chinese Characters. It's very fun and addictive. We appreciate any feedback you send us to make Ninchanese the perfect app for every Chinese learner. Hope you'll like it. :)

Hi Product Hunt! We're very excited to have been hunted, thanks @tom1077! Ninchanese is a gamified Chinese learning app I've been working on for the past few years with @jean_remi_laisne and @tito. As Chinese learners, it was incredibly frustrating to see how little progress we were making in our Mandarin learning. So we decided to create Ninchanese to change that. We choose to build a complete learning solution where we put as much, if not more, focus on speaking and learning how to make sentences in Mandarin, as on learning how to read and type Chinese characters. Haven't you had that horrible surprise of arriving and realizing that despite years and years of learning Chinese in class, no one can actually understand a word you say? Very discouraging. That's why we spent time working on offering learners a good and accurate voice-recognition system that gives you instant feedback on what you say in Chinese. So, you know, you can go to China and be confident they'll understand you! The app is currently in open beta. so we're all looking forward to hearing what you think of it! We're here today to answer your questions and comments, so please, ask away and send us feedback!

Looks great and looking forward to trying this out more, @sajimi @jean_remi_laisne! Already subscribed to look at all the content (although the subscription area could have used a more concrete reminder of how many additional lessons e.g. you're getting on a premium plan). As someone who has been learning casually for a while, I was curious about two things: Can I skip ahead if I already know the basics with some kind of placement test (looks like I can't) and how much content is available now, plus at what rate is new content being added. Looking at the Learn Chinese tab there was a good amount of beginner content, but for someone who isn't a complete newbie like myself, it looked like I might run out of interesting lessons quickly. Would you say the site is more suited for complete beginners at this point?
Jean-Rémi Laisne
Thanks for your feedback! @joostschuur . Yes, there is more than the beginner courses on Ninchanese! You'll find content for beginner to advanced level. How? On the home page, select the "world" (= level) you want to start learning. The next level is Elementary Level - World 2 - Legend of the Phoenix etc Doing a placement test is planned in the near future (with Chinese Master boss to beat ;) ), for now, you can jump ahead and do the level you want. The level of Ninchanese follow the HSK curriculum, so you learn what you need to pass it and succeed. You said something very interesting "Looking at the Learn Chinese tab", if you just started on Ninchanese and take this link directly, it gives you the beginner level de facto. If you have been already on a higher level, it takes you to the level where you left off the last time you used Ninchanese. Thanks to you, I understand why some users could not find higher level now...! I'm pretty sure it's because of this! "Would you say the site is more suited for complete beginners at this point?" No, it's not, it's for everyone that want to learn and progress in Chinese.

@jean_remi_laisne Excellent to see there's already more content than I initially found. To be honest, I think I just mentally ignored the world selection hero unit on the front page and expected some kind of world selector to be at https://app.ninchanese.com/world.... I did hit the down arrow there, but it only showed the Words / Sentences / Dialogues stats overview.
Jean-Rémi Laisne
@joostschuur that could be an enhancement, thanks for the tip :)!

I tried it out as a Chinese local speaker, it was fun, will introduce it to some of my foreign friends who intend to learn Chinese recently. Thank you for making it easier for people to learn Chinese, and keep up the good work! 👍
Jean-Rémi Laisne
@yaoyixiong If a Chinese local speaker says Ninchanese is fun and want to introduce Ninchanese to his friends, what can I say?! It's great, thank you very much, the Nincha Team appreciate it.

The app is cute and easy to start with. It really make sense of "practice makes perfect". Would love to help as a native speaker of Chinese.
Jean-Rémi Laisne
Thank you @hijoycehe. Even more than "practice makes perfect", we use smart repetition through an algorithm. So the practice and repetition are tailored to the learners, personally. If you are feeling like helping, you can join our slack and speak with Chinese learners here: https://ninchanese.com/chat/ :)

@jean_remi_laisne Just joined. Glad to find there is app for android!
Jean-Rémi Laisne
@hijoycehe The android App is coming out in beta in few days :D!

As some people have asked, we are also preparing the traditional Chinese learning on Ninchanese. We are actually in private beta and we'll be launching in open beta not so far in the future! :)
Sarah Aberman
Absolutely right @jean_remi_laisne! Support for traditionnal Chinese is being beta-tested as we speak. If you're interested in getting early access to this new feature on Ninchanese, here's where you can sign up: https://ninchanese.com/learn-tra.... I'll be in touch!

Congrats with your product! I love it! Great product, nice design and the mascotte is absolutely lovely. I'm a Singaporian, but grew up in Europe. I'm also looking for digital tools to learn chinese (vocabulary in particular). However I'm more interested in Cantonese at the moment. Will definitely check Ninchanese out though!
Sarah Aberman
@benzainl thanks for your feedback! Glad you like the design and the cat mascots. Looking forward to seeing you on the app when you check it out :) and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, whether on the app or on Chinese, we're happy to help!
