Honest answer on the tracking: I don't, and honestly can't with a straight face. Netfox is a network monitor, so "phones home to measure activation by language" is the one behavior it should never have — no usage analytics, no telemetry. The app just follows your Mac's system language, so it quietly speaks whatever you already use.

So the next languages will be demand-driven the low-tech way: what people ask for (threads like this one), where downloads come from, and issues that land in a non-English language. IT/FR/DE/ES were the first wave — if there's one you'd want next, I'm all ears 👀

The notch HUD is live — it's bound to your device list in real time, not a snapshot taken when you open it. So when a device joins, the online count updates on its own, even while the HUD is just sitting idle under the notch — no need to reopen or hover. And if you have it expanded, the new device shows up in the list right there.

And yes: for a brand-new device (one Netfox has never seen on your network before) you also get a system notification — "New device on your network", banner + sound — as long as notifications are allowed. There's also an optional "a known device is back after being away" alert you can switch on if you want it.

@ibrahim_adamu2 Thanks! 🙏 macOS picks an app's language at launch, so after you change your Mac's system language just quit and reopen Netfox to see it switch — a quick relaunch, not a reinstall. That's standard macOS behavior rather than a Netfox quirk; once it's running in your language, it stays put.

@maryam_nafees1 Great question! 🇮🇹 Italian is my own language, so I went through it screen by screen myself. French, German and Spanish are AI-assisted translations that I review and refine — and a French user in this very thread saying it "feels natural" tells me it's landing. If you ever hit an Italian phrase that reads off, I'd genuinely love to hear it — you'd be reviewing the reviewer 😄

@manjesh_yadav1 Thanks! 🙏 100% local — every translation is bundled inside the app and compiled right into it, so no online service is involved and localization works fully offline. Netfox is a network monitor, so keeping it from making surprise network calls is kind of the whole ethos 😊

@twagiramungu_yves Thank you! 🙏 Nothing locked in yet, but adding a language is genuinely low-effort now — the hard part (pulling every string out of the code) is done, so a new one is mostly the translation itself. Portuguese and Dutch are both very reasonable next candidates, and requests like yours are exactly what moves a language up the list — so consider them noted 👀 Which of the two would you reach for first?

@ashir_murtaza1 Thanks! 🙏 Honest answer: since the four languages are AI-assisted (I review and refine, and Italian is my own), the translating itself wasn't really harder for one than another — that effort was the same across the board.

The challenge was elsewhere: German. It's the longest of the four, so it's the one that stress-tests every tight spot in the UI — menu bar, badges, the notch. Nothing overflowed in the end, but it's where I held my breath.

And the real surprise came in testing, not translating: a lot of text wasn't in the obvious UI labels — it lived in computed values the usual string-extraction tools quietly skip, so the only way to catch it was to run the app in each language and look. Even after launch, testing in Italian turned up a couple of spots still in English (the menu bar view and the notch) — exactly what a small follow-up shipped today fixed.
