Android's developer verification deadline passed on 30 September. Check your Play Console.

Google started enforcing app registration in four countries three weeks ago, and the rollout widens in 2027. Most Play apps were registered automatically, but "most" is not the same as "yours".

Google's Android Developers Blog (18 June 2026) set 30 September 2026 as the date developer verification protections begin, starting with users in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, on certified Android devices. Google's developer verification page says it expands globally in 2027 and beyond.

What Google's own posts say: the participating stores are Google Play, HONOR App Market, OPPO App Market, Samsung Galaxy Store, Palm Store, V-Appstore and Xiaomi GetApps. If you ship on Play, your apps need to be registered in Play Console. Google says about 99% were registered automatically, and apps that aren't registered face removal from Google Play. If you distribute only outside Play, you register through the Android Developer Console instead. Hobbyists and students can use a limited distribution account (up to 20 devices, no government ID, no fee), and there is an advanced flow for power users who want to install apps from unverified developers. One caveat: all of these figures come from Google, which is also the party enforcing the rule, and I haven't seen independent numbers.

What I would do this week. First, open Play Console and confirm each app shows as registered, rather than assuming the automatic pass caught it. Second, if you also ship through any of the other listed stores or outside Play, check the Android Developer Console for those builds. Third, read the signing-key section of Google's verification FAQ, which I have not covered here. Fourth, if you have users in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore or Thailand, treat this as already live. Everyone else has until the 2027 expansion to plan, which is a good window to sort it out calmly.

Nothing here is dramatic for most small teams. It is a ten-minute check that is much cheaper before a removal notice than after one.

Did your apps register automatically, or did you have to fix something?
