TIL about "Eternal September" and a little lesson about why my first PH launch fizzled

I can't recall the original thread but I saw the phrase "eternal september" in a slightly pejorative yet patient comment about new entrants to established communities.

Anyway, I thought about that as I reflect on my first Product Hunt launch--how despite (because?) I spent a lot of time coordinating my beta testers and colleagues to participate--that coordination, especially wit hother new users triggered PH spam controls. Oops!

So, my launch languished. Luckily for PH the damage is localized to my little tumbleweed product page, because I unwittingly triggered the defense mechanisms. System working as designed.
