Intent - Focus by intention, not by force

by
Intent is a soft-block focus app for Mac. Name what you're here to do, and it builds an allow-list around that intent. Drift off and a gentle overlay asks you to choose, no hard lockouts. Each session ends with a quick reflection. Local-first and private.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Kavin, and I built Intent because every focus app I tried treated me like a prisoner. Freedom, Cold Turkey, the rest, they hard-block. You hit a wall, get annoyed, and either rage-quit the session or find a workaround. None of it made me more honest with myself. Intent works differently. You tell it what you're actually here to do ("review the design doc, reply to Ben"), and it builds an allow-list around that. If you drift, there's no wall, just a soft overlay that asks: is this part of the work, or did it pull you away? You decide. Every session ends with a 20-second reflection. It's Mac-native and local-first (your intent and reflection text never leave your machine). Free tier gives you 2 sessions a day. Pro unlocks unlimited sessions, custom allow-lists, and saved modes. Would love your honest feedback, especially on the core idea: does nudging beat blocking for you?
