What is the appeal of this? Is it less memory intensive than having a Google Chrome tab open?
David
@pfilias I'd be curious about this as well. If it's not, then I don't see the benefit of having a dedicated app.
Scott Elliott
@pfilias for me, I’ve been having issues with too many tabs open in Chrome - and killing my Ram, so I’m hoping this will allow me to offload a couple tabs.
Denys Dovhan
@pfilias actually, there's kind of people that like to have a standalone application instead of pinned tabs in a browser. I'm one of them, so I've built it for myself. By the way, some of the additional features are planned in future (compact & dark modes). The best part of it is that application is open sourced and that means everyone can propose or implement the feature they like to have.

@pfilias After google kills its Inbox, this looks like only replacement for me.

It needs more plugins and extra features besides those that are provided on the web client.

Pros:

None

Cons:

- Same as the web client

- Continuous notifications for unopened emails which is hampering my concentration and productivity

Makcraft
Exactly! You use Mac, just wrap it up with Fluid or something
Denys Dovhan
An issue with continuous notifications are known and going to be resolved soon. About extra features: at least two of them are going to be implemented in nearest future (compact mode & dark theme). Thanks for your feedback anyway!

This looks great! I’ve been looking for another option since Boxy became so flaky.
Denys Dovhan
@frantzlight huge thanks for your support! Also, any contributions are highly appreciated!

Have you guys tried Wavebox as well. That thing is incredible!
@Bernardamus
What about Inboxer vs Astrobot ?
@Bernardamus
@andylima yeah sorry....but since Astro actually has an Astrobot.... I made some "confusion" ....
hibuddie
its very nice app, but I believe that adding up other emails like Yahoo, mail, Hotmail, and others emails will be create too, or what did you think @denys dovhan
Denys Dovhan
@hibuddie unfortunately, Inbox by Gmail works only with Gmail accounts. It doesn't seem to change in future.

I mean. Plug a URL into an electron app generator and call it a product. Wow. *sarcasmark
Denys Dovhan
@itamar_o_kestenbaum oh, I wouldn't be so skeptical. The key here is that application is open source and free. That means everyone can help with a bug or propose a feature. Right know an application is just a wrapper around the web application with few minor fixes and extensions. However, additional features, like compact mode and dark mode are coming soon. Thanks for your feedback anyway. I'll keep that in mind to make the application better in future.

Just another website in a separate window called a product

Pros:

Fast

Cons:

No notifications

Denys Dovhan
Actually, Inboxer has notifications. Could you report your issue with notifications, so I can try to resolve this?
Denys Dovhan
Inboxer is a free, open-source and cross-platform desktop client for Inbox by Gmail. Originally Inboxer was built for my personal needs as an addition to Inbox client for iOS. There's kind of people that prefer to have a standalone application instead of a pinned tab in the browser. I'm one of those. Recently I've decided to publish this as an open source application since it might be useful for someone else. It's built with Electron on top of inbox.google.com. The application heavily modifies the look and feel of web-version and introduces additional features. • Familiar Inbox by Gmail interface • Cross-platform (macOS/Linux/Windows) • Useful Keyboard shortcuts • Multiple accounts • Optional Always on Top • Auto-updates to the latest version • Desktop notifications • TODO: Dark theme • TODO: Custom text size • TODO: Ability to use as default mail client Inboxer is still evolving and looking for inspirations of additional features. We're always happy to consider feature suggestions!
