HyNote for Mac - Free local transcription that is 100% Private

Solving the three biggest pain points in meeting software: privacy, friction, and cost. By running speech-to-text entirely on-device, your confidential discussions never leave your hardware, ensuring total data privacy. It operates invisibly without sending an awkward bot into your attendee list, capturing system audio directly across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.

If this is free then what's the catch?

Fair question! No catch—we genuinely believe private transcription should be accessible to everyone. We offer extras for heavy users, but the free tier is truly free. No ads, no data sharing.🙌

Most notetakers meter transcription by the minute. Yours is free and unlimited because it never leaves the Mac. Congrats on the sixth launch and on still giving it away.

Thanks Ben! Still iterating🚀, but keeping the core free and unlimited is something we're committed to—transcription shouldn't come with a meter. Appreciate you noticing.🙌

Local transcription is the part that would make me try this. Meeting notes can contain pretty sensitive stuff so keeping audio off third party servers is a meaningful difference.

Appreciate that! Keeping audio local was the non-negotiable from day one. Means a lot to hear it resonates🙌

I like that this solves the awkwardness rather than adding another meeting participant. the less people have to change theur meeting habits the better.

Thank you! We wanted it to feel invisible—no meeting etiquette to explain, no extra clicks. Just set it and forget it. Glad it comes across that way!☺️

Does everything stay on the device after transcriotion too, or are summaries sent to a cloud model?

Using only the Mac app keeps all your data strictly local to your device. If you choose to sync across the HyNote Mobile App, Web, Chrome Extension, or Apple Watch, your data will securely process through our cloud servers.

I'm always annoyed by random notetaking bots the coworkers keep invite to meeting. But I'm excited to try this since it runs locally on my mac + 100% private.

Let us know how do you like it 😆

Interesting idea. Congrats on launch. Will it be allowed for IOs?

Already is! HyNote is already available on iOS. Give it a try!😄✊

Here's the App Store link if you want to check it out:🙌

Crazy! I am gonna try it. Was looking for something like this for some time now. Just curious about the privacy policy. Does the data go online?

On-device system-audio capture is the right call for privacy, but on recent macOS that kind of capture needs the audio-recording permission - and once that's granted, macOS shows its own recording indicator in the menu bar. Does that show up during a meeting, or have you found a way around it? If it does, "invisible" might need a caveat since attendees using the same Mac could notice.

Congrats on the launch! The on-device privacy angle is genuinely differentiated, and I like that it's not just live-meeting capture. One thing I'm curious about though - you mention it ingests YouTube links and web clips alongside local audio/PDFs. Doesn't pulling those in require a network call out, even if the transcription/processing itself stays on-device? Not a dealbreaker, just curious whether the "never leaves your Mac" claim is scoped specifically to meeting audio, or whether those other source types get flagged differently in the privacy story.
