I use my Google Voice number on my business cards. And I found an awesome number 247-CHIP. (Obviously, I didn't put my three digit prefix) Although I'm not really available 24/7, it's good for business and the last four digits are my last name.

Its coverage is quite limited, Canada & US for the most part. Google has not made much to expand it globally in the past and I don't expect it will do anything espectacular now. For Google, a global corp., a service that cannot scale globally makes no business sense. So its fate doesn't look very bright, as soon as the strategy guys lie their eyes on it, they'll command it to be axed and the resources being wasted to be reassigned more "strategic" endeavors. I wouldn't take the lifting in the UX as any reassurance of continuity but fear that it may draw attention onto itself from the Strategists, thus accelerating is unavoidable demise. That is life, it adds or otherwise always subtract, and a Corp. owe to its stakeholders to always add in the long term.

Absolutely love Google Voice and glad to see its still alive! This is my solution for the 'other number' you want and also to make cheap international calls to India. I mean, its $0.10 cents per minute from US to India! Try to beat that price!

"Ringing in 2017" it's almost February... all the ringing has been done unless they mean Chinese New Year?

After using this app for a week or so, I'm wondering if anyone on the UX/UI team at @google actually uses GV. Yes, this app is prettier, but there seem to be a bunch of obvious flaws. For starters, there's no longer a "favorites" list for calling, and the numbers you type into the dialer don't delete after you make a call (so you have to manually clear them out to make another call). I love Google Voice, but I'm sorry to say this app is a step backwards in terms of usability. Am I missing something :)

I'm pulling back in some of the early posters on this thread: Now that you've had a chance to play with the GV app, how are you feeling about it? Am I alone in my assessment that it's rather cumbersome to use? I'm looking at you: @andrewwarner @gregyagan @chrismessina @adithya @pixelenglish @kevinbryantlou @kevinmandeville @tonybrix :)

@omicaustin honestly I've never used the Google Voice app. Google Voice integrates with Google Hangouts very well and it has a much better interface.

@tonybrix Fair enough. Hangouts has it's own hangups IMO, but I agree it's a much better interface. I make calls exclusively through GV, so there's a benefit for me to having a dedicated calling app.

@omicaustin @andrewwarner @gregyagan @chrismessina @adithya @pixelenglish @kevinbryantlou @kevinmandeville @tonybrix I'm jumping in here unsolicited: I'm more deeply annoyed with it than ever. Now I only receive calls on my phone, and only as a forwarded call - the Caller ID now says it's me on my Google Voice number. Totally unacceptable, to the point that I am now looking for alternatives. I'm through with Google Voice.

Eh, I use Hangouts because I also use Project Fi

Finally... Google Voice is something I rely on daily as well and it's due for a refresh. Can't wait to see it.

Yes! I am excited to see the threaded messages. From the screenshots, It looks like there's now an ability to send photos too.

Huge news. I was worried they were going to cut this soon. I've been a huge fan since launch but it always felt like a side project.
