It really is a great product, but it doesn't actually pass the Turing test!

Super scary.

This is so cool and yet scary at the same time. I'm not sure why. Hey, that's technology for you.

@swiftpolar I know what you mean about scary. For me, it's alarming that Google is signaling that the best form of AI is the form that *actively works* to fool you into thinking it's a person and not a bot. The "Um"s and "ahhh"s exist only to create the illusion, and by working to blur the line between that illusion and reality, Google is ultimately dehumanizing the experience of using this technology. I'm all for robot butlers and automated tasks, but the future Google is selling feels deceptive, anxious, and predatory.

Death by AI. End of the world? :)

The list of tech required to pull this off is mind blowing. Forget the TTS that sounds completely human (including the linguistic tics and nuances) - the RNN, Long-Short, etc. that most likely are used results in an unreal result. Now I wonder if this can handle "discussions" with a significant other, or negotiate for a better deal on car insurance.

I'm actually surprise of how many people is impressed by this. I have been using google's assistant technology for a while now. It's amazing! I just wish they release the new voice ASAP! This is what you can do with it:

Capchas for businesses who don't take reservation from robots?

As someone who has a lot of anxiety around making phone calls, I am very excited about this. 😊

One day, when I received a call from a friend, how do I know that the end of the phone is my friend?

ummmm... how do you know this comment is not written by an AI but an actual person?
