What's one design decision you changed your mind about after working on real products?

When I first started designing, I focused a lot on making interfaces look polished. Over time, I realized usability and clarity usually matter more than visual effects.
One example for me was simplifying layouts instead of adding more components. Users completed tasks faster, even though the UI looked less "fancy."
I'm curious what changed your perspective.
What's one design belief you had early on that you no longer agree with after working on real products?
I'd love to hear the reasoning behind it, not just the conclusion.

@xermiolabs Very relatable, my Hot take - there are 2 general types of products - Ones that need selling and Ones people actually need.
Mobile phones, laptops, cars etc need selling and differentiation so we need fancy UIs and beautiful designs.
On the other hand Amazon and Walmart are $700 bn dollar businness with functional designs. People come to find products, these surfaces need not be fancy. Another example are govt. portals, usability is all over the place, but people are determined to get the task done irrespective of the ui.
