what metric do you usually see to know if your website is doing well?
by•
I've been using my website for a while, although not too long, and I understand that SEO takes a long time to make a noticeable difference, but I'm hopeful. I would like to know what the most fundamental metrics are to get an idea of whether I'm on the right track or what I need to improve.
If you have your consolidated website, your opinion or if you know about the subject would be very useful.
Another point that I would like to know is what is the most effective way to obtain backlinks? If you have any advice leave it in the comments!!
Thanks!

I usually look at organic traffic trends first. If impressions and clicks from search are steadily increasing, that tells me the site is moving in the right direction
I mostly look at Google Search Console for impressions, clicks, position, and which queries I show up for. We also have our own analytics where we track which pages people visit, what events they trigger, where they come from etc. But the real question is whether that traffic does anything, like signups. Rising visits don't help if nobody takes the next step.
I'm still figuring out backlinks part, but the advice that seems to hold up is to earn them by being useful somewhere (helpful answers, a resource worth citing, directories relevant to your niche) rather than chasing links directly. I even had a few DMs offering to publish me on their sites (not cheaply), but they didn't look trustworthy, so I passed.
