What are your predictions: Which country will have the upper hand in technological development?

I have always seen ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ the US as a cradle of ideas, a place where advanced technological solutions are created and implemented.

But due to various policies, regulations, etc., I see that other countries are starting to have a say in tech (rising stars)

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎScandinavian/Nordic countries

(But in my opinion, ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Europe as a continent is still behind due to very restrictive policies in AI and useless "innovations"... Those bottle caps are supposed to be eco-friendly, but technologically they don't help much)...

How do you see the development of tech leadership?

Overall, I think it's very clear that the US is leading, and will continue so for quite some time, followed by China.

Let's look at some current / future key areas:

  • Computing / AI hardware: The US is leading with Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Apple etc. BUT they currently depend on Asian companies like TSMC (Taiwan, called the worldโ€™s most powerful company by Trump) for production

  • AI software: Despite Deepseek etc., the US is clearly leading, and will continue for quite some time I think

  • Advanced robotics: US leading, China catching up, Japan still strong

  • Quantum computing: US leading, but China is investing very much here also

  • Renewable energy and batteries: China clearly leads here currently

  • Fusion power: I think several countries have a chance here (e.g. USA, China, Japan, Germany, France, UK)

  • Space tech: US clearly leading, China catching up, Europe and Japan still strong, India makes much progress

  • Advanced medical research (e.g. curing cancer, extending the human lifespan): The US is clearly leading, but the UK and Germany are also forefront in some areas, and e.g. China, Japan, South Korea, India also have notable research.

"Nordic" and other smaller European countries are of course also at the forefront in some areas, but I think they're just too small to compete with the US and China at a large scale. India is sure making much progress in many areas, not sure if / when it will catch up.

@konrad_sxย Thank you for this comparison. You research a lot so I can rely on this :) BTW, what happened with Japan? ๐Ÿ˜ญ They used to be more on the TOP but last decade or 15 years it is not like that.

@busmark_w_nikaย Regarding Japan, I think the ageing population is a problem, but they ARE still very strong, especially with robotics.

@konrad_sxย Good to know, exactly, it reminds me of the podcast I was listening to the day before. They talked about how many kids are born per woman on average. 1.15 children per woman in Japan.
