Mobile users behaved nothing like desktop users.
We segmented our analytics by device for the first time in April. 60 days of data, roughly 22,000 sessions.
Desktop (14,300 sessions):
Median session length: 8m 40s
Pages per session: 6.2
Trial start rate: 4.1%
Most common entry: homepage
Mobile (7,700 sessions):
Median session length: 1m 50s
Pages per session: 2.1
Trial start rate: 0.7%
Most common entry: a shared link to a specific feature page
Mobile users were not "desktop users on a smaller screen." They arrived from a different context — someone shared a link in a group chat, they tapped it, looked for 90 seconds, and left. They never saw the homepage, never saw pricing, never understood what the product was.
We built a mobile-specific sticky banner on feature pages: one sentence explaining the product, one button to "See how it works." Trial starts from mobile went from 0.7% to 2.3% in 6 weeks.
Do you actually know why your mobile visitors are there, or are you assuming they're the same people?
