Is September the best month to launch on Product Hunt?

Every 1st of the month, I have a little ritual: I open and check past years’ launches for that month.

Looking at September 2024, one thing stood out: it was incredibly strong.

6 products crossed the 1,000 upvote mark

– Another 6 projects were above 900

– And over 10 projects landed with 800+ upvotes

That’s an unusually high concentration of strong launches, easily one of the best months of the year.

The weekday/weekend gap also held true: projects launched Monday–Friday consistently outperformed weekend launches, confirming the old rule: weekdays = more traffic, weekends = less visibility.

So the big question is:

Will September 2025 repeat the trend?

My guess: yes. September always has that “back-to-business” energy, summer vacations end, founders push to launch before Q4, and the PH audience is more active. The competition will be tougher, but the upside (traffic, visibility, buzz) is also much bigger.

What do you think, will September 2025 be another record month, or will the cycle shift this year?👇

Well, reading this after just locking in our September launch date is both validating and terrifying 😅 Thanks for the analysis ... it sounds like we'll be seeing you all in the arena ⚔️

 haha same feeling here :)

definitely in the same boat over here 😆 Good luck to you and excited to see what you're launching! ✨

nice! When do you plan to launch?

we're aiming for the 17th! See you all there 😊

I think yes, but for marketers, this season will be brutal. I mean, there are a lot of festive days, holidays and increased marketing effort + ad placement is more pricey.

and someone is organizing a hackaton

Yeah, I need to slow down because my body is asking for it. I should put health in the 1st place.

Could also equal to a month you should NOT post, if the competition is high in September?

If you’re aiming for ranking, it could definitely make sense to consider another month. Some projects count everything below number 1 as a failure, so that would mean a very serious level of preparation.

I think it's not that important what day to launch, except weekends and holidays of course. Although on the other hand the competition is not that big 🤔

 yes

weekends are super chill

I think it makes sense for products with big budgets who can outcompete in September, for Indie Devs I think the summer is a much better time

 definitely

a lot of big companies are coming to launch in September

Im about to find it out today as we have our launch scheduled..Fingers crossed

Thank you so much

September feels like Product Hunt’s main event - big buzz, but also way more competition and marketing noise.
If you want maximum reach and aren’t afraid of a crowded field, it’s hard to beat. But for indie makers or anyone who doesn’t want to battle the budgets, summer might offer an easier runway. Personally, I’d pick September for big swings, but not if ranking #1 is the only goal.
(I'm about to launch in October lol)

 yes

summer is also not a bad option

Well, hope you right ! My launch day is tomorrow :)

 good luck!

Awesome breakdown! September’s energy is perfect for big launches, but the competition is intense. For smaller teams, is it worth battling the giants or better to aim for a quieter month like June? Curious to hear your thoughts!

Totally agree with your take — September feels like the “New Year’s Day” for founders. Everyone comes back refreshed, launches pile up, and the PH audience is more engaged than usual. The upside is huge, but it also means standing out requires sharper storytelling and stronger community support. Excited to see if 2025 keeps that momentum or surprises us with a curveball month
