Is October the best month to launch on Product Hunt?

by

By tradition, every first day of the month I open hunted.space and scroll back through previous years. Today, I checked October 2024 and what I saw was fascinating.

Unlike September 2024 (which was crazy strong in 2024: six products over 1000 upvotes, 6 more than 900 upvotes and more than ten over 800), October looked very different.

Only one single product passed 1000 upvotes: bolt.new (with exactly 1003) which has been performing brilliantly and organized the largest online hackathon a few months ago.

Just three products made it over 900 - Feta, HeyForm 3.0 and buzzabout . They crossed 1000 upvotes the days after the launch but during the launch they they were less than 1000.

Yet, surprisingly, three Sundays had launches with 600+ upvotes a rare trend. Sunday is usually super slow.

So while October didn’t have the sky-high peaks of September, it also didn’t have any real “dead days.” Weekday launches still outperformed weekends, but not by a huge margin.

To me, this says October is a balanced month: no overwhelming highs, but also no scary lows.

What do you think? Will October 2025 follow the same pattern, or is it shaping up to be stronger than last year?

The colder it gets, the more time we spend on our laptops and ship 😆

I think it is a matter of chance, it is impossible to predict which month is the best for a launch. But I hope this pattern will work for October :)

@ixord Agree.

But it's interesting to see so many Sundays with 600+ upvotes. It mean almost every Sunday was full with great launches!

@byalexai Should there really be this many active users on Sunday?

I think that October is one of those best months as people during colder autumn are more likely to be online.

@busmark_w_nika agree

No more summer parties.

Still Christmas is far away.

Work mode on.

@byalexai I am not a party type, that explains why I am on Product Hunt every day LOL :D

That's actually the reason why I'm delaying launching Cal ID. I know I shouldn't, but I don't know why I did it, its hard to compete in October as, yes, its very evident a lot of big players launch in October.

what bolt.new did is really fascinating. How did they do this? what was the their main method?

Interesting observation. I’m curious how November or December usually compare to these months. I have a feeling they might be quieter overall — with holidays coming up and people launching less — but sometimes that also means less competition and more visibility for those who do launch.
