How not to lose Product Hunt streak during the summer

Summer months bring vacations, travel, more time spent outdoors, and less time for online or work-related activities.

Because of this, it’s easy to forget to check Product Hunt and lose your streak.

Here are a few preventive tips:

  • When working on your computer, keep Product Hunt open in a tab and refresh it regularly.

  • Set three times during the day to check it.

  • Keep the Product Hunt app installed on your phone just in case.

  • Add the Product Hunt widget to your phone.

  • Set a daily reminder at the same time, for example through email or Apple Reminders.

  • Support products with comments, upvotes, or participate in discussions. So you have proof you were on the website.

Do you have your own system?

My system is dont travel 😬

:D but travelling sometimes mean enjoying life :D

Mine isn't a reminder, it's a rule. I don't close the laptop until I've replied to everyone who replied to me that day, which is usually four or five threads and twenty minutes, and the streak is just a side effect of doing something I wanted to do anyway. Reminders got ignored the second I was busy, this doesn't, because it's attached to work rather than to a notification.

But isn't it a lot of work? I mean... when you are a bigger account, it is very difficult to react to everybody.

It's four or five real replies a day, everything else in that tab is upvotes and follows that don't need anything from me. That's twenty minutes. If it ever gets to fifty I'll answer the people who actually asked me something and skip the rest, which is what I'd want if I were the one asking. What I won't do is start sending one word thanks just to get the count to zero.

I'm 18 days in, so this is timely.

The thing that's kept it going isn't discipline, it's that I attached it to something that already happens daily rather than treating it as its own task. Checking PH is the thing I do before I start work, not a thing I remember to do at some point.

The honest caveat, though: I've noticed the streak has quietly stopped being motivation and started being anxiety. I'm not opening it because it's useful anymore, I'm opening it because I don't want to see the number reset. Those feel identical from the outside and they're not the same thing.

So my actual advice for summer would be the opposite of protecting the streak — decide in advance what the streak is for. If it's there to build the habit, breaking it on holiday costs nothing. If you're protecting the number for its own sake, it's already stopped working.

For me, it’s less about protecting the streak and more about staying connected while I’m building AURELIA Atlas.

I already spend time here reading, learning, and talking with other makers, so the streak naturally becomes part of the process rather than the goal. 🙂
