How not to lose Product Hunt streak during the summer
Summer months bring vacations, travel, more time spent outdoors, and less time for online or work-related activities.
Because of this, it’s easy to forget to check Product Hunt and lose your streak.
Here are a few preventive tips:
When working on your computer, keep Product Hunt open in a tab and refresh it regularly.
Set three times during the day to check it.
Keep the Product Hunt app installed on your phone just in case.
Add the Product Hunt widget to your phone.
Set a daily reminder at the same time, for example through email or Apple Reminders.
Support products with comments, upvotes, or participate in discussions. So you have proof you were on the website.

For me, it’s less about protecting the streak and more about staying connected while I’m building AURELIA Atlas.
I already spend time here reading, learning, and talking with other makers, so the streak naturally becomes part of the process rather than the goal. 🙂

Mine isn't a reminder, it's a rule. I don't close the laptop until I've replied to everyone who replied to me that day, which is usually four or five threads and twenty minutes, and the streak is just a side effect of doing something I wanted to do anyway. Reminders got ignored the second I was busy, this doesn't, because it's attached to work rather than to a notification.

@asadmalik901 But isn't it a lot of work? I mean... when you are a bigger account, it is very difficult to react to everybody.
@busmark_w_nika It's four or five real replies a day, everything else in that tab is upvotes and follows that don't need anything from me. That's twenty minutes. If it ever gets to fifty I'll answer the people who actually asked me something and skip the rest, which is what I'd want if I were the one asking. What I won't do is start sending one word thanks just to get the count to zero.

@asadmalik901 I think that your position is bearable. Unfortunately, I had to start skipping some answers because I am on 4+ social media platforms with a lot of engagement and huge audiences.
@busmark_w_nika skipping is the right call at your volume, and I'd rather get nothing from you than a two word thanks. the only ones I'd protect are the people who actually asked something, nobody else notices. my twenty minutes only works because I'm on one platform, it wouldn't survive four.

@rabnoor_s nailed the real distinction, @busmark_w_nika : the streak is scaffolding for a habit, not the point itself. "Ten minutes on one real conversation beats seven days of proof of presence" is exactly right.
I'll add a data point from this week: I've been genuinely active here for a while, real comments, actual back-and-forth, not streak-protecting refreshes. And launching right now, the people showing up to engage are almost entirely ones I had real conversations with over the past weeks. None of it came from "checking in to keep the number alive."
So my honest summer tip: don't optimise for the streak, optimise for one genuine conversation a day. The streak takes care of itself, and unlike the number, the relationships actually show up when you need them.

Adding the other half of what I said earlier, because attaching it to real work only holds while the streak stays a side effect. The moment the number becomes the goal it starts producing the opposite of what it was for. You post to protect the streak rather than because you actually had something. And filler is not neutral on a platform like this, it is visible. Everyone can tell which comments exist to keep a counter alive, including the person you left it under. The tell is simple enough. If you are deciding what to post because of the streak rather than despite it, the streak is now costing you the exact thing it was meant to build. The fix I use is boring: decide in advance what the minimum honest action is. Mine is one real reply to somebody I would have replied to anyway. If a day genuinely has none of those in it, the streak breaks, and that is useful information rather than a failure.
