At what point does a product stop being a tool and become knowledge?

by

When we build products, we usually measure success by features, performance, or growth.

But I've been wondering about something different.

Some products solve a task.

Others change the way people think, work, or make decisions.

To me, that's an interesting distinction.

A calculator gives answers.

A map helps you navigate.

A good knowledge system helps you understand.

Where do you think that transition happens?

What makes a product more than a tool?

I'd love to hear how other builders think about this.

I think the transition happens when a product starts preserving context, not just producing outputs.
A tool helps you do something. A knowledge system helps you understand why, learn from the past, and make better decisions over time.
