About That SpaceX "AI Device"
by•
The Wall Street Journal reported this week that SpaceX has shown investors an early prototype for “a handset-like device designed to reshape how humans interact with artificial intelligence.” It’s thinner than an iPhone, runs on SpaceX’s own operating system, and uses chips from Qualcomm.
It’s probably not a phone because Elon said he doesn’t want to build one. But what it actually is is unclear. (That's if it exists at all; Elon Musk called the report "utterly false.")
Do you think Elon has a new device up his sleeve?
Is it a phone or something totally new?
And how big of a deal might it be?

Hard to say at this point. There are so many rumors around AI hardware these days that I'd rather wait for an official announcement. If something like this does exist, I think the user experience will matter much more than whether it's called a phone or something else.
I observe user reactions to SpaceX news and I notice mix of excitement about and curiosity in discussions online.
I consider how users would adopt a new SpaceX device and i think about daily habits battery needs interface simplicity and whether people would switch from existing phones or just use it as a secondary communication tool in practice scenario.
Maybe not strictly hand held, possibly a cube type device along the lines of Orac from the 70s.
