Forma-oss - urn a prompt or image into an editable hardware project

Forma turns a prompt or image into an editable hardware project with parts, wiring, mechanical layouts, cost estimates, and assembly instructions. Its open-source, local-first workspace connects supported AI agents to shared project data, rule-based electrical checks, and CAD tools. Generate concept renders, inspect the design, and revise your project as your idea evolves.

How did Astra change the scope or ambition of what you built?
We built Forma-OSS to make hardware development as iterative as software, connecting parts, wiring, mechanical design, costs, and assembly instructions in one structured project. We use GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst to generate concept renders so users can visualize ideas and explore design variations. Our MCP integration connects agents to Forma’s HardwareIR, CAD tools, and electrical validation. The next milestone is integrating GPT-6 Astra’s complex reasoning, tool calling, and Structured Outputs into this workflow. We want component changes to trigger coordinated checks across enclosure fit, wiring, and assembly, with mid-turn steering to handle changing requirements. OpenAI API credits would let us implement and evaluate that integration on real projects, measuring geometric correctness, project consistency, and human correction effort as we help small teams move toward physical prototypes.
